Can a paralegal represent me in court?
Paralegal rights of appearance in Ontario and BC small claims forums.
Ontario: Yes. Paralegals licensed by the Law Society of Ontario have full rights of appearance in Small Claims Court — they can draft pleadings, attend settlement conferences, conduct trials, and run enforcement proceedings.
British Columbia: The Provincial Court's small claims rules and the CRT both allow representation by an agent or helper in most circumstances (the CRT restricts representation in some dispute types but routinely permits it where fairness requires). We confirm eligibility for representation as part of every BC intake.
